Not every lift will be perfect. That said, it is wise to train the body to be able to lift awkward objects and lift them efficiently. A 500# deadlift sounds impressive, but understand that a barbell is designed to be lifted a specific way and is designed to be comfortable to lift. Awkward objects are not.
